Just a quick note that the upstart Slovakian team at the World Junior Championship in Ottawa defeated the American team 5-3 today in a major upset. After losing their 3-0 lead against us the other night in a 7-4 defeat and then getting bumped from medal contention by a team that was expected to lose every game, they must be hurting.
Slovak goaltender Thomas Tatar stopped 44 shots as the U.S. outshot his team an astounding 47-18, standing on his head the entire game. American goalie Thomas McCollum was less then impressive, allowing five goals.
The Americans were highly expected to be a medal contender – there has got to be some very disapointed sponsors among all the hockey fans south of the border shaking their heads.
My suggestion: hire a Canadian coach.
