With the realization that Mats Sundin is not likely to join anyone’s training camp let alone play a full season, Bob Gainey made a great move today and acquired 37-year old Robert Lang from the Chicago Blackhawks for a second round draft pick in 2010. While he’s no Mats Lang did put up good numbers in the Windy City last year with 21 goals and 33 assists in 76 games and a +9.
The Blackhawks were over the salary cap and knew it for some time, thus the great price tag for the Habs. I’m not sure exactly where he’ll fit on the young Canadiens team but I think he’ll be a force this year.
On a side note, Patrice Brisebois also signed for another year and with that the roster is likely complete for the start of the season. Check out my New Habs article for info on the big moves of the off-season.
