Patrice Cormier Releases Statement

Insane hockey talent and part-time thug Patrice Cormier released a statement today following the announcement by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to suspend him for the rest of the year, saying that he “accepts the decision.”

Cormier’s brutal elbow on Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam is now infamous, the video of the assault and Tam’s ensuing seizure being played over and over on both the web and television. Tam spent two days in hospital being watched for more symptoms of the brain trauma he suffered but, besides a few lost teeth, expects to be released next week.

Cormier, a repeat offender where illegal hits are concerned in the QMJHL, has quickly fallen from grace following his naming as captain of the Canadian World Junior team this year as he prepares to sit out the remainder of the regular season and playoffs as his Rouyn-Noranda Huskies move forward.

For the sake of Patrice Cormier, the players he’ll face on the ice as he moves towards his NHL career with the New Jersey Devils and Canadian hockey in general, let’s all hope he learns his lesson.
