New Habs: 2008-2009

Amid the endless rumours of some big names coming to Montreal during the past summer (think Mats Sundin, et al) Canadiens’ fans have little to sink their teeth into with the new season fast approaching. But with all the hype surrounding the potential blockbuster deals, two fantastic players quietly made their way to Montreal and both with better-then-reasonable pocket damage – George Laraque and Alex Tanguay.

Now, without getting too heavy on expectations, I think fans can safely assume that Tanguay more then makes up for the loss of Michael Ryder. Tanguay is a goal-scorer and a playmaker with the right linemates and the young, quick Habs team will be a good fit. Laraque adds the bulk that we sorely lacked during the postseason and he brings quick hands and solid numbers to the team as well.

The point of this post: don’t sweat Sundin, we most definitely don’t need him!
