Injury Report

Andrei MarkovFirst Andrei Markov, then Ryan O’Byrne and then Glen Metropolit – and all in only the first two games of the regular season. Ouch.

Markov, arguably our best player and most definitely our best defenceman suffered a lacerated tendon in his ankle after getting tied up with Carey Price in Toronto on Saturday night and will miss somewhere between 2-4 months as he recovers from surgery that took place over the weekend. The loss of Markov puts even more pressure on Carey Price to keep the puck out and also leaves us with a big, gaping hole on the powerplay. Bob Gainey can either call up a player or two from the farm (Carle and Weber come to mind) or look into making a trade or signing a free agent.

Ryan O’Byrne suffered an ankle injury after blocking a shot last night in Buffalo and is expected to miss the next six weeks. O’Byrne has been steady so far this season and will be missed, especially in light of the Markov situation.

Glen Metropolit left the game last night with a reported upper body injury but it remains to be seen how serious the injury is and if he’ll miss time on the ice.
