After a short period of taking offers, RDS and CBC are both reporting that the Molson family has made an offer to George Gillet for the purchase of the Montreal Canadiens franchise, the Bell Centre and the Gillet Entertainment Group that the current owner has accepted. This report comes after offers had reportedly come in from several sources, including a group lead by former Hab Serge Savard.
I personally see this as the best possible option as far as a sale went and I welcome to uber-wealthy Molson dollars to the team’s stability coffers. The Molsons have long been at least part-owners of the Habs and this should mean things within the franchise will continue as usual with Bob Gainey at the helm (whether or not this is a good thing I have yet to decide – we’ll see how busy Bob’s summer is!).
