After speaking to the media on Wednesday and complaining that he felt underused with the Canadiens’ organization and that he expected an imminent trade, George Laraque apparently had a change of heart last night. He spoke with media at practice this morning and says that he actually expects to spend his entire three-year contract with the Habs; Carbo got to him, apparently.
While I like Big George enough the truth is that he is a mostly untalented player with skills in an area that is difficult to utilize in the new NHL. Fighting seems to be on the way out and, considering Laraque’s well-known values that keep him from fighting with anyone who hasn’t received a mailed invitation, he hasn’t shown the ability to take over the aggressor role that has been filled this season by the likes of Komi, Boullion, Greg Stewart and Steve Begin.
He’s the wrong guy for this club – trade him or waive him.
