The Habs came out to the Bell Centre for another lazy skate on Saturday night against a Devils team that came to play and the resulting three hours saw Jaroslav Halak stop 45 of 48 shots for yet another Montreal loss. The Canadiens managed just 23 shots on Marty Brodeur who tied Patrick Roy’s goaltender win record of 551 in front of his native crowd and Saint Patrick himself. The Bell Centre boo birds gave the Habs an ugly exit and then proceeded to give Marty a standing ovation for several minutes, showing the class of the fans and the sad state of their hockey team at the same time.
Other games over the weekend saw many of the teams lapping at our heels gain at least a point, including the Penguins who knocked us down to 6th place in the conference. We had better hope that this 40+ shots agaisnt trend stops sometime soon or we won’t even see the first round.
