Carey Price’s suck streak continued tonight and the boys went back to looking a little sub par as the Buffalo Sabres pummled us 5-1 tonight. The Habs came out with a strong effort for – yup, you guessed it – the first 15 minutes, out-shooting the Sabres 16-3 at one point. Patrick Lalime played a great game for Buffalo with several outstanding saves during the first and he kept the game scoreless long enough for Derek Roy to knock a pair past Price. Unlucky bounces combined with another listless night for Jaroslav Halak’s new backup made for yet another Canadiens thumping.
On the bright side: with Halak as hot as he is we can only hope his play continues long after he recovers from the flu. Price is having a horrible run but he’s a kid with the potential to be our franchise tender for years to come; I want to bash him as much as the next guy but he’s a good goalie having a hard time and we’ll all forget this when he’s hot next month, or next season.
We’re lacking some key parts that Gainey failed to pick up before the deadline today and that shows even now against non-playoff contenders – how will we fare with this type of play in the playoffs?
Here’s hoping for better things in Carolina on Friday.
