Game 3: Flames 4 – Canadiens 3

Gui! slides a puck past Kipper in the first periodDespite a valiant effort, some great goals and a better shot total, the Habs came up short against the Flames last night, losing 4-3 in regulation.

Of note is the fact that the “valiant effort” I speak of took place in the first and third periods only; the boys couldn’t seem to get it together in the second period and likely lost the game because of it. Halak was decent but not exceptional – I’ll be glad to see Price in nets tonight against the Canucks, assuming he’s maintained his hotness since Buffalo.

Scott Gomez and Gui! scored only 73 seconds apart at the end of the first period to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead going into the second. Gomez wired a one-timer from Mike Cammelleri while Gui! ground his way to the net and slid a nice backhander in.

Tomas Plekanec scored the Canadiens third goal late in the second and played very, very well throughout the game. He even appeared to give Andrei Kostitsyn a spark, and that’s saying something.

There were no major standouts in the “awful” department tonight.
