Our five game unbeaten streak and three game winning streak against the Devils on the road both came to a crashing halt tonight in Brick City. With Koivu, Tanguay and Price all out of the lineup the Habs made a big move, bringing Max Pacioretty, Kyle Chipchura, Yannick Webber and goalie Marc Denis up from Hamilton.
The third and fourth lines played a good amount of the game and our lone goal came from Pacioretty, his first in the NHL. It was a very nice wrist shot as he flew down the wing, a pretty one.
The real story (beyond the general dozing of most of the team) was Jaroslav Halak. For the first two periods he looked terrible, losing track of the puck in front of the net or on a rebound, flopping around in panic and looking generally slow. With Price out Halak would have gotten the start despite a minor flu or something similar, a potential explanation for the poor showing. Marc Denis started the third period, allowing one goal and looking decent.
Carey Price was out due to a continued aggravation in his previous lower body injury. The Habs listed him as day-to-day and I would guess that he’ll be back in net when we host the Panthers on Sunday.
