It may have taken a shootout but they got it done. After losing a 4-2 lead in the third and allowing the Ottawa Senators to tie up with only a minute remaining in regulation and then getting outworked in overtime both Alex Kovalev and Maxim Lapierre scored nifty goals in the shootout to lead the Habs to their second win in a row and seventh in their last eight games.
Andre Kostitsyn scored the second Canadiens goal to put Montreal up 2-1 and extend his goal scoring streak to a very hot six games. Brother Sergei contribued an assist along with Robert Lang, his second of the game on two great passes. Matt D’Agnosti scored his seventh and Tom Kostopolous got his fourth to round out the Montreal scoring. Kyle Chipchura sat in favor of Gregory Stewart, who was called up from Hamilton earlier this week when Kovalev with up in the air for the game against Nashville; Stewart assisted on D’Agnosti’s goal with a perfect pass from behind the net for his first career point in the NHL.
