With the Canadiens up 2-0 in the series and on a 13 game winning streak against the team from Boston, the Bruins really had to put something together at home if they wanted to avoid a series sweep.
After taking their first lead of the season against the Habs on a goal by Milan Lucic as he was left all alone in front of Carey Price in the first period the Bruins continued much stronger play against the Canadiens. Montreal wasn’t ready to throw in the towel though, and they tied it 18 minutes later as Tom Koustopolous put one past Tim Thomas in the second.
The third period saw stellar goaltending at both ends of the ice and the game eventually went into overtime for the second time in a row. After a few mad Habs scrambles and several key saves by Tim Thomas Boston’s Marc Savard jumped out of the penalty box to cash in on a scramble in front of Price to put the puck home; suddenly the Bruins are contenders again, at least until Tuesday.
GAME NOTES: No biggie; we’ll take them down on Tuesday to setup a 3-1 series lead going back to the Bell Centre
